Tales from the Threshold
Tales from the Threshold
+ Conversations at the Threshold
Explore life, loss and remembrance with two events of art and storytelling at Fire Station Creative this October.
In these back-to-back events, award-winning artist Elisha Enfield joins forces with professional storyteller and celebrant Beverley Bryant from Dunfermline. The first – ‘Tales from the Threshold’ – on the 15th of October will be an evening of paintings and stories that illuminate the shared rituals of fire, loss, joy, and remembrance.
Enfield’s evocative canvases delve into the macabre beauty of funerary rites and the fragile boundaries between absence and presence. Woven through her work are universal questions of how we remember, celebrate, and carry those we love. Having already exhibited Thresholds at the Fire Station since last month, intertwining Beverley’s tales will allow viewers the chance to appreciate Enfield’s pieces in a new light.
“So much of Thresholds is about the narratives we form around loss,” says Enfield. “Collaborating with Beverley feels like a natural extension of the exhibition. Her warmth and passion for storytelling and remembrance align beautifully.”
Through stories drawn from Scotland’s cultural heritage and global traditions, Beverley Bryant brings these themes to life, keeping oral traditions alive in ways that echo across generations. Together, painting and storytelling open a space where myth and memory entwine, inviting us to linger at the threshold.
“When I walked into Elisha’s Thresholds exhibition for the first time it made me shiver,” states Bryant. “Chatting to her, I realised there were so many connections between the ideas behind her work to the stories I tell. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to work with someone so like-minded. Telling these stories in my hometown really makes me happy.”
The morning after ‘Tales from the Threshold’, attendees can join Enfield and Bryant for a guided discussion on the rituals of death, memory, and celebration. This intimate workshop creates space to share personal experiences and reflections, breaking the silence that too often surrounds death. Together, you can explore how talking openly about loss can help us understand our own stories. Everyone is welcome—whether you wish to speak, listen, or simply be part of the conversation.
“I hope these events invite the kind of open, thoughtful conversations around loss that we so rarely make space for,” Enfield says. “I’m excited to see how they bring the community into dialogue with the work.”
‘Tales from the Threshold’ will take place on Wednesday October 15th from 7:30-9pm. Tickets are £6 and available to buy from the Eventbrite website or the Fire Station Creative Cafe/Bar. On Thursday October 16th, from 10am-11:30pm, ‘Conversations at the Threshold’ will take place. Tickets are free but limited, available to obtain from Eventbrite or the Cafe/Bar.
